Route of Historic Buildings with Educational Role in East-West Cultural Exchange

With the collision and interactions between Chinese and Western cultures over more than 400 years, Macao has established unique education systems, characterised by diversity and inclusiveness. Some of the schools visited on this trail have completed their historical mission, while others are still practicing their educational philosophy and cultivating talents. As time flows by, those historic buildings that were once used as schooling venues have either been repurposed or still functions as a school. In any case, their stories and footprints are like vestiges of the past, deeply imprinted on the memory of Macao people, and as a cherished part of Macao's history, they will be hailed by future generations.

This trail features a selection of some of the educational historic buildings by type, showing Macao’s education development in an East-meets-West context over a course of more than 400 years, offering the public a glimpse of its developmental contexts and historical accumulation.
