Cultural civil servants from Canton and Hong Kong visit Macao’s monuments


    About 12 heads of the cultural departments of Shenzhen, Dongguan, Zhongshan, Shunde and Hong Kong that are in Macao to take part in the II Conference on Cultural and Artistic Cooperation in the Pearl River Delta Region, have visited some of the historical monuments that are candidates for a world heritage site.

    Representatives of the three territories reached to an agreement on various cooperation projects that will contribute immensely to the improvement and promotion of regional and international exchange programs.

    Central library - Week-end activities


    Every weekend, the Central library organises activities for different age groups to encourage reading. These take place either in the main library or in the branch libraries.

    Cultural Institute Promotes Macao Heritage Net and Macao Art Net During IT Week


    The “2004 IT Week”, with the theme “IT and Environmental Protection”, will be held from today (October 8) in the Exhibition Hall located on the second floor of the Macao Tower. The Cultural Institute was invited by the organizer to join the “Electronic Government Area” for three consecutive days, in which the Institute will exhibit its “Macao Heritage Net” and “Macao Art Net”, and to promote cultural heritage conservation.



    The 27th Session of the World Heritage Committee was held from 30th June to 5th July at the Head Office of UNESCO in Paris. A delegation from China consisting of over forty people and including President of the Cultural Institute of the Macao SAR Government, attended the sessions.

    Mandarin's House estate donated to Macau Museum


    The property donated, 38 pieces/groups in total, includes photographs of Cheang Kun Ieng with his family, a sketch of the Mandarin’s House, an obituary, furniture and documents. This is a precious collection that will form a part of the Macau Museum estate.

    Presence of the Cultural Institute at the Asia Cultural Cooperation Forum


    The first Asia Cultural Cooperation Forum took place in Hong Kong on 29 and 30 September. Organised by the Hong Kong Home Affairs Bureau, the forum was attended by cultural leaders, individuals and organisations from various countries, namely Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, Vietnam, Indonesia and Japan, for the purpose of promoting cultural and artistic exchanges in the Asiatic region. The Cultural Institute was represented by its Vice-President, Dr. Alice Wong.

    Chinese Minister of Education Predicts that Macao’s Candidacy for Inclusion on the World Heritage List will be successful in 2005


    The Macao Delegation to the 32nd Session of UNESCO’s General Conference had a meeting with the Chinese Education Minister, Zhou Ji, to discuss matters connected with Macao’s application to be included on the World Heritage list.

    Deadline for Registration of “Cultural Heritage Young Journalist Summer Course” Postponed to June 18


    The “Cultural Heritage Young Journalist Summer Course” has generated great response. Since there is a strong request for a longer registration period, the Cultural Institute has decided to postpone the registration deadline to June 18.
