    SM004-Guia Hill

    Location: Macao

    Category: Sites

    Designation: Qin Shan, Chong Shan

Introduction: Eastern part of the Macao Peninsula

A long time ago, the hill was called “Qin Shan” because it was very similar in shape to the Chinese instrument called yao qin. After a scheme to plant pine trees on the hill around one century ago, people started to call it “Chong Shan” (Pine Hill). This is the largest green area on the Macao peninsula reaching 90 metres above sea level. Guia Fortress and Guia Lighthouse were built on top of the hill with the Chapel of Our Lady of Guia located just beside the lighthouse. The road that curves around Guia Hill is today part of the famous Macao Grand Prix racing track.
