    Introduction: Avenida da Praia Grande

The design of this park reflects the beauty of European architecture in every detail. The park is divided into two main sections by Rua de Santa Clara, with a level, lower section next to Rua da Praia Grande and a hillier section at Rua Nova à Guia. The former section is famous for its scenery, footpaths through the greenery and numerous parterres, while the latter is built along the hillside, with footpaths constructed to fit the terrain. The low walls, columns, arched entrance and fountain give the park a strong European style. Footpaths lead up the hill to a children’s playground and a small circular building, once the Museum of World War I, where Portuguese soldiers (especially those from Macao) were commemorated, now serves as the office of Macao’s Handicapped Association.
