Introduction: Between Rua Ferreira do Amaral and Estrada da Vitória
Portuguese navigator Vasco da Gama opened the sea route to India in 1498. In 1898, the Portuguese government constructed the park to commemorate the fourth centenary of this event. The park is relatively small with a memorial at its centre and vintage cannons facing front and back. The central monument consists of a bronze sculpture of the famous navigator standing on a white marble plinth inscribed with an excerpt from the Portuguese epic poem The Lusiads.
