Before the building was constructed, the site was originally a part of the Vasco da Gama Garden which was created in 1898. The building was finished in 1939, and became educational campus of the Pedro Nolasco da Silva Government Primary School, where Portuguese had been taught as the official language. From 1995 onwards it has been a part of the Luso-Chinese Luís Gonzaga Gomes Secondary School.
