AM025-Former Court Building

Location: Macau
Category: Buildings of architectural interest
Address: Avenida da Praia Grande, n.º 459

Built in 1951, the building was originally a shared office for a number of government departments including the Financial Services Bureau, the Bureau of Civil Service Administration, the Central Bureau of Economic Services, the Bureau of Public Finance and the Court. As a result, it was called the Macao Civil Services Building. Due to lack of space, the various government departments were gradually relocated away from this building. After the handover of Macao returning to China, the building was renamed as the Macao SAR Court of First Instance. In 2003, the Court of First Instance also vacated the building.

Architectural characteristics:
The three-storey Court Building is of eclecticism style. The stone steps and towering ionic columns symbolise the authority vested in this building.
