Constructed in the early 20th century, this pavilion is the main structure in the garden, and sits at the edge of a lake. The scenery around the main hall is fascinating – the beautiful green ponds, the winding bridges, the rockery, the bamboo grove, the waterfall and the winding corridors form a three-dimensional landscape painting. When Dr. Sun Yat-Sen came to Macao in May 1912, he was invited to stay in this house, where he met with some important Chinese and Portuguese figures in Macao.
Architectural characteristics:
Lou Lim Iok Pavilion consists of a main hall and two side wings. Outside the pavilion there is a wide corridor with Corinthian columns. The railings around the ponds and the carvings on the windows are in a Chinese style, reflecting the characteristics of both Western and Chinese architecture.
